About Me
Hi! My name is Rachel Ford (she/her) and I am a licensed clinical professional counselor based in Boise, Idaho.
I joined the behavioral health field as a substance abuse counselor in 2009 and became a licensed mental health counselor in 2016. I have worked in a variety of settings including the Idaho prison system where establishing trust and open communication with my clients was essential for meaningful engagement. I have been fortunate to work with a diverse population treating both chronic and acute onset mental health challenges.
Therapeutic Style and Approach
I utilize a variety of treatment modalities in my work with clients. My approach is collaborative with a touch of lighthearted humor when it’s needed. My goal is to help clients become empowered to move their life in the direction that feels best for them. I do this by building a strong therapeutic alliance and client centered goal setting that is realistic. No goal is too small!

Why Blue Heron?
I chose the name Blue Heron Counseling Services because the Great Blue Heron is a beloved staple in the Treasure Valley region and one of my favorite birds. These graceful birds are known for their quiet strength, patience, and ability to thrive in various habitats. In nature the heron’s survival relies on long periods of stillness and focused observation.
Blue Heron Counseling services offers a sanctuary where clients can pause with curiosity, reconnect with their inner wisdom, and take meaningful steps towards growth and self-discovery.
